The Tab

I joined the Sussex Tab in January 2017 as a writer. For my first story, I wrote an article about the trials and tribulations of a night out in my hometown, which went locally viral after being shared by locals and friends who could relate to the story.

Since then, I have covered everything from immersive features, breaking news, political interviews and hot-take opinion pieces. At the end of my second year of university, I spent a week at The Tab’s HQ in London. Here, I wrote 7 articles which received 45,600 pageviews in total and gained skills in SEO and pitching ideas to editors.
My most-read story was an immersive feature in response to the release of Lidl’s hangover-free prosecco. The story received 54,000 pageviews and 8,900 shares, being nationally cross-posted across all The Tab sites.

In my final year, I became my team’s features editor. As an editor, I was responsible for editing and fact-checking other writers’ stories, as well as providing them with weekly article ideas. Being part of The Tab team was one of the highlights of my university experience. In our weekly meetings, we would bounce ideas off each other, work as a team to grow our page and celebrate our news stories that had a positive impact on university life at Sussex. My involvement at The Tab was a truly invaluable experience and set me up with skills in writing, editing, networking, journalistic law and SEO.
