Assistant Editor at New Valley News: June 2020 – present
  • Responsible for writing news stories, sourcing leads, sub-editing the paper, building online stories and posting content to social channels.
Editorial internship at The Telegraph 24th – 28th February 2020
  • Gained features experience from a newspaper perspective whilst developing skills in idea generation with a news angle.
  • Produced copy for an online feature.
Editorial internship at Time Out London: 13th – 24th January 2019
  • Responsible for researching, organising and writing the ‘Free Page’;
  • Produced copy for branded content, editorial and digital teams.
Editorial internship at Hearst: October 2019 – November 2019
  • Trained in using various content management systems;
  • Produced four articles for Country Living and House Beautiful;
  • Interviewed three women for a print feature in Good Housekeeping.

  • Confident writing, editing and grammatical skills with strong communication abilities;
  • Research dissertation findings presented at the Undergraduate Linguistics Association of Britain Conference (2019) and acknowledged by established linguists as an interesting field for future study.
Features Editor at The Sussex Tab: January 2017 – May 2019
  • My personal most read story was an immersive feature in response to the release of Lidl’s hangover-free prosecco. The story received 54,000 pageviews and 8,900 shares;
  • Broke a story on a university residence break-in. I had to confirm source evidence by speaking to multiple victims, the police and university press office to ensure I got the story first. The story received 3,600 pageviews;
  • This led to a follow up news article which required keeping in contact with the local police and university press office, that added 1,100 pageviews to the original story;
  • Responsible for editing and fact checking other writers’ stories, as well as providing them with weekly article ideas.
Placement at The Tab HQ, London: 23rd – 27th August 2018
  • Wrote 7 articles which received 45,600 pageviews in total;
  • Took an alternative approach to The Tab’s coverage of Love Island, writing an evidence-based opinion piece on how TV producers play on female insecurity;
  • Learnt SEO skills and how to optimise articles for search.
 Personal Instagram blog, ‘@bethdohertymedia’: May 2019 – to date
  • Developed a personal Instagram blog showcasing a passion for culture, travel and lifestyle;
  • Write social media content and small reviews recommending unconventional places to visit such as cafes, bars bookshops, museums and undiscovered travel spots.
 Media editor at The Slinky Fox: May 2019 – March 2020
  • Responsible for Instagram stories, content production and communicating with customers through social media.
